Nannacara

Nannacara

Nannacara is a genus of small, colorful cichlids native to freshwater habitats in South America. There are several species in the genus, including:

  • Nannacara anomala – also known as the goldeneye cichlid, is a popular species in the aquarium trade. It has a yellow body with blue-green highlights and red eyes.
  • Nannacara aureocephalus – also known as the goldenhead cichlid, has a greenish-yellow body with a bright yellow head.
  • Nannacara taenia – also known as the bandit cichlid, has a beige body with black stripes and red eyes.

Nannacara cichlids are relatively peaceful compared to other cichlid species and are suitable for community aquariums. They are also relatively easy to care for and prefer soft, acidic water with plenty of vegetation and hiding places. Like many cichlid species, they are also mouthbrooders and exhibit attentive parenting behaviors.
